Megan Cottone: Borland Elementary students go for the GOLD

IMLAY CITY — Borland has launched a new schoolwide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports initiative called “Go for the GOLD,” designed to recognize students for the positive choices they make each day.

GOLD represents four expectations that students are encouraged to demonstrate throughout the school: Give Respect, Own Your Actions, Learn Every Day, and Do What is Right.

Leading the initiative is Borland student support specialist Mrs. Chaffin, who has been working with students and staff to bring GOLD to life throughout the building.

Students are receiving lessons focused on what each expectation looks and sounds like in different areas of the school, helping create a common language for positive behavior across Borland.

Of course, going for the GOLD also comes with a little fun! Staff members can recognize students who demonstrate the GOLD expectations by giving them GOLD tickets. Last week students had their first opportunity to cash in those hard-earned tickets during the opening of the GOLD Store, where they could “shop” for a variety of prizes.

The first GOLD Store brought plenty of excitement to Borland and, more importantly, gave students an opportunity to be celebrated for the everyday choices that help make their school a positive place to learn. As the school year continues, Borland students will be encouraged to keep setting their sights high and Go for the GOLD.
