Lions Park ribbon-cutting next week

IMLAY CITY — Following months of extensive planning, resident input, and construction, Imlay City officials and project partners are set to unveil the newly revamped Lions Park to the public.

An official ribbon-cutting celebration will take place 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at the park, located at the intersection of Blacks Corners and Attica roads.

The transformation was made possible through more than $800,000 in funding from the Michigan SPARK Grant Program, alongside key contributions from the City of Imlay City, the Lapeer County Community Foundation, and local partner organizations.

The revitalized space now offers upgraded amenities designed around direct feedback from the community. Visitors can explore enhanced trail connections linking directly to the regional Polly Ann Trail, alongside updated playground equipment and recreation areas.

The family-friendly event is free to the public and will feature complimentary food and refreshments. Attendees can meet with local non-profit organizations, enjoy performances by area school groups, and attend nature discussions highlighting native plant species and the surrounding Belle River ecosystem.

Organizers emphasize that the project stands as a testament to local collaboration, turning resident ideas into a permanent community gathering space for recreation and outdoor learning.
