Almont wins BWAC football showdown, 14-0
ALMONT — Almont claimed its 25th straight Blue Water Area Conference win, accomplishing the feat with a 14-0 road triumph against league rival Armada last Thursday night.
With the decision, Almont improves to 2-0 and 1-0. Armada slips to 1-1 and 0-1
In Thursday’s battle, Almont and Armada concluded the initial quarter with zero points apiece.
The second quarter would prove scoreless as well. Following the halftime break, Almont struck with a 7-0 third quarter edge. Almont then outscored Armada 7-0 from that point on, putting the finishing touches on a 14-0 victory.
The winning Almont side generated their 14-point total aided by a Blake Lane 35-yard touchdown run (followed by a successful extra point kick courtesy of Rian O’Neil) and a Colten Karbel four-yard touchdown run, followed by an accurate extra point boot from O’Neil.
For the night, Lane completed three of 10 pass plays for 37 yards as Almont’s quarterback. He threw zero interceptions along the way.
His successful tosses were distributed to two different targets. Their ranks consisted of Brody Corneau (two catches for 16 yards) and Logan Schapman (one reception for 21 yards).
The Almont ground attack managed 186 yards on 38 totes. Individually, Corneau (13 rushes for 85 yards) and Karbel (61 yards on 15 totes) proved Almont’s toughest players to contain. The remaining 10 Raider rushes netted a combined 40-yard gain.
Ayden Battani and Karbel (three solos and six assists each) plus Max Glavich (one solo and eight assists) posted Almont’s highest tackle outputs. Logan Lorincz and Schapman (two solos and three assists apiece) made their presence felt as well.
The Almont defense also registered one takeaway. Karbel (an interception) furnished that.
Almont will look to keep their perfect record intact this Friday when it entertains Richmond. The Blue Water Area Conference clash is slated to get underway at 7 p.m.
