Sports In Brief: Almont boys cross-country 4th; Cardinal girls compete at Bad Axe Invite

BAD AXE — The Almont boys’ cross-country team registered a fourth-place finish at the Bad Axe Under the Lights Invitational last Friday. 

EPBP Laker took home honors, thanks to an output of 48 points. Benjamin Kline, 10th, 19:16; led Almont while Colton Grzyb was 11th, 19:19; Sid Davis 23rd, 20:46; Johnny Roland 29th, 21:04; and Mason Grzyb placed 45th with a time of 22:24.

Levi Fitchett paced Dryden’s two-runner contingent, three below the minimum required to contend for team honors, with a third. He was timed in 17:51. Tyler Roberts, 25th, 20:49; supported his performance.

In the girls division, the Dryden girls’ opened their 2026 campaign at the Bad Axe Under the Lights Invitational. Claire Wright logged the quickest Dryden time, stopping the watch at 21:56 en route to a third place finish. Lilyana Lasher posted a time of 25:49, paving the way to a 29th-place finish.

Almont soccer drops match to St. Clair

ALMONT — The Almont boys’ soccer squad fell one goal short when the final scores were added up, dropping a 2-1 road verdict to non-league counterpart St. Clair last Wednesday,

With the decision, Almont now stands at 0-1 this season.

Killian Abithiera supplied the lone Almont goal.

Raiders fourth, Spartans fifth in BWAC golf

TRI-CITY AREA — The Almont and Imlay City girls’ golf squads placed fourth and fifth, respectively, last Friday at a Blue Water Area Conference Jamboree hosted by Lutheran North.

Cracklewood Golf Course is where the action unfolded. Yale (201) paced the field assembled. 

They were followed by Armada (209), Lutheran North (215), Almont (235), Imlay City (237), Richmond (243) and North Branch (248). Eva Rayl led Almont with a 50.  She was backed by Piper Steinhaus (58), Vanessa Steinhaus (62) and Alexis Redner (65). For Imlay City. Ava Shack was low with a 50.  McKinley Couzens (56), Alyssa Bruman (61) and Adalyn Siegler (70) supported her performance.
