Almont spikers win Silver Bracket at Mount Morris
ALMONT — The Almont varsity volleyball team won the Silver Division bracket at the Mount Morris Invite last Thursday.

Almont started tournament play with an 18-25, 25-23 split versus Ann Arbor Huron. That was followed by a 23-25, 13-25 loss to Mount Morris; a 25-14, 25-19 win against Swartz Creek and a 14-25, 15-25 setback to North Branch. The Lady Raiders later faced Flint Kearsley for the distinction of Silver Division champions. That battle ended with Almont up by a 29-27, 25-21 score.
Madi Derk collected 17 ace serves to lead Almont that day. Cora Wangler, Emily Howard and Nora Battaglia (three each), Kali Tencza (two) and Lily Samp (one) supplied the remaining Raider aces.

Wangler handled the bulk of Almont’s playmaking responsibilities. She was credited with 24 set assists.
Derk (17) and Wangler (11) supplied Almont’s top kill totals. Howard (nine kills), Audrey Hrubetz (seven), Samp (six), Nora Bishop (five) along with Serena Evola, Jocelyn Stewart and Hettinger (one apiece) supported their performances.
A group consisting of Derk (28), Wangler (23), Howard (19), Hettinger (15), Tencza (13), Battaglia (five), Samp (three), Hrubitz (two) plus Allie Johnson and Stewart (one each) added Almont’s digs.
