Gail Irene (Hobson) Boldt, 84

Gail Irene (Hobson) Boldt, 84 years, passed away on July 18, 2026. 

She will be missed by many: her husband, Jerry, of 67 years; children, Tammy (Jim) Lee, Scott (Penny) Boldt, Cindy (Ray) Soule; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchild; her sisters; in-laws; nieces and nephews and their children, her friends and neighbors, and the generations of children she drove to and from school on rural roads. 

Gail drove school buses for Almont Community Schools for 25 years, maneuvering the big yellow rigs and children within. Among her passengers were her sister’s children, then her own grandchildren. She went from being called Aunt Gail to Grandma Gail by riders. She was kind to all. 

Gail and her husband, Jerry, likely made thousands of popcorn balls over the years; gifting the salty sweet treats to student riders, friends, and family. Unfortunately, the decades of bus driving back roads took its toll and she suffered with back pain and through surgeries for years. Gail was not a complainer; she fought back again and again through her many health challenges. Gail was welcoming and generous — always a wonderful host in every home — whether it be family holiday potluck dinners to Halloween parties in her basement, family reunions at the farm with camping around the pond, to birthday parties and showers in the barn brimming with antiques, housing her family through blizzards, to hosting snowbird friends for RV camping. 

She had a great laugh that could be picked out of a crowd and was certainly contagious. She was a skilled golfer and, true to her upbringing, would always be up for a game of cards. Any chance to visit and laugh was welcomed. In retirement, she and Jerry would play a game in the morning to determine who got to be “boss” for the day. Gail crocheted countless blankets for loved one’s occasions like weddings, babies, graduations, and illnesses. Even crocheting baby blankets for hospital donations. She kept her hands busy to share her warmth and love. We celebrate her life and will miss her spirit. Thank you for all the love and laughter, rest in peace Gail.

A celebration of life for Gail will be 2-6 p.m. August 29, 2026, at The Bells Event Center, 401 Church St., Almont, MI 48003. Arrangements were entrusted to Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Almont.
