Dryden football earns BTC Blue Championship
DRYDEN — The Dryden football team saw to it that the Big Thumb Conference Blue Division championship would belong to them at night’s end, rolling to a 38-0 road victory over Kingston on Friday, Oct. 9.
With the result, Dryden raises its record to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in conference play. Kingston slips to 4-3 and 3-2.
“It was a hard-fought game and our boys really showed up to win the league title,” Dryden coach Hunter Gall said. “Kingston is a well-coached football team with some great athletes, so we knew we would have to be on our A-game this week. I am so proud of these guys. They have grown so much over the last few years and it is great to see the hard work pay off for them.”
Dryden amassed its winning 38-point total aided by a Gianni Coscione 1-yard touchdown run (followed by a Coscione PAT conversion); a Coscione-to-Santiago Perales 19-yard touchdown pass; a Coscione 9-yard touchdown run (followed by a Coscione PAT conversion); a Perales 80-yard punt return for a touchdown (followed by a Coscione PAT conversion); and a Coscione 12-yard touchdown run (followed by a Coscione PAT conversion).
Coscione finished 9-of-21 passing for 97 yards as Dryden’s quarterback. His successful passes were distributed to three targets: Luke Taylor (four catches for 30 yards), Perales (three receptions for 42 yards) and Brady Schneider (two catches for 25 yards).
The Dryden ground attack managed 295 yards on 31 carries. Coscione (20 rushes for 218 yards) and Schneider (50 yards on six carries) proved to be Dryden’s toughest players to stop. The remaining five Cardinal rushes netted a combined 27-yard gain.
Taylor (in on nine stops) and Coscione (eight) logged Dryden’s highest tackle totals. Callum Brown (in on seven stops) plus Quinton Towell and Schneider (six each) supported their performances. The victorious Dryden side also managed one takeaway on a fumble recovery by Schneider.
Dryden will look to continue its winning ways this Friday when it entertains Burton Bentley. The nonconference matchup is set to begin at 7 p.m.
