Stine, Campbell excel at FireStix tournament

TRI-CITY AREA — The Tri-Valley Twisters 15U softball squad, which counts Imlay City’s Macie Stine and Almont’s Melina Campbell among their ranks,  went 6-1 en route to a ninth-place finish among 60 entries at the FireStix College Exposure Tournament recently.

Grand Blanc is where the action unfolded.

The team began their tournament path Thursday, June 25 with a 10-6 win against Caledonia Chaos and a 9-7 victory over Michigan Batbusters 15U.

Friday, June 26 saw Tri-Valley Twisters 15U register a 7-4 triumph against Ice Fastpitch 15U Murchie and a 15-2 win over GR Flames Terry 15U.

They followed that up  Saturday, June 27 with a 7-4 victory against FireStix 16U Miller/Fitch; a 14-0 triumph over Midwest Gators 16U; and a 7-1 loss to Detroit Prospects 16U.

Stine wound up with eight singles, two doubles and four   home runs for the tournament.

 She also provided Tri-Valley Twisters with 12 RBI and seven runs.

In addition to that, Stine fashioned a 3-1 pitching mark for Tri-Valley Twisters.

She allowed 14 hits, struck out 10 and issued five walks over 17 1/3 innings.

Campbell ended the tournament with seven hits.  Her effort included four singles, two doubles and a triple.

She also contributed nine runs scored, four RBI and one walk to her team’s cause.
