All-Area baseball team chosen

TRI-CITY AREA — From the season-opener until the final contest, these players let their respective performances out on the field speak for itself.

Here is a look at those who earned a spot on the 2026 edition of The Tri-City Times All-Area first team lineup and the numbers they generated along the way:

Brody Tesnow, Capac, pitcher/infield.

Record: Tesnow finished with a 7-3 mark, including a 3.52 ERA, this season.

In 57 2/3 innings of work, Tesnow allowed  54  hits, struck out 63 and walked 14.

He wrapped up his four-year stint on Capac’s squad with a school record-setting output of 253 strikeouts.

Batting average: He finished the year with a .363 average.  That ranked him first on the Capac squad and eighth among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees.

The senior generated 15 singles, 12 doubles, one triple and one home run in 80 at bats.

He also provided Capac with 25 RBI and drew 12 walks.

Tesnow struck out just eight times this season.

Postseason honors: Tesnow, who has signed with St. Clair County Community College, wrapped up the season as an All-Region, All-District and All-St. Clair County selection and was a Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association Division 4 All-State honorable mention choice.

He was also an All-Big Thumb Conference Black Division first team selection as a pitcher. 

Aiden Furneaux, Dryden

Record: Furneaux put together a 7-2 record, featuring a 3.32 ERA, during the 2026 campaign.

He also retired 46 on strikes and walked 23 along the way.

Batting average:  He supplied a .558 average, leaving him first on the Dryden squad and out of those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status.

The junior managed 23 singles, six doubles and one triple in 54 at bats.

He also contributed 28 RBI to Dryden’s cause.

This was his second year on Dryden’s squad.

Postseason honors: He finished the 2026 campaign as an All-Big Thumb Conference Blue Division first team selection.

Ian Tresnak, Dryden.

Record: Tresnak posted a 9-3 mark, including a 3.02 ERA, this season.

In 48 1/3 innings of work, Tresnak registered 77 strikeouts and walked 32.

Batting average: Tresnak concluded the season with a .500 average  That ranked him second on the Dryden squad and second among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees.

The senior collected  29 singles, six doubles and three triples in 69 at bats.

He also provided Dryden with 22 RBI.

This was his fourth season on Dryden’s varsity.

Postseason honors: He completed the year as an All-Big Thumb Conference Blue Division first team choice.

Blake Lane, Almont, pitcher/shortstop.

Record: Lane registered a 5-4 record, featuring a 3.39 ERA, during the 2026 campaign.

He also allowed 38 hits, struck out 66 and issued  32 walks over 51 2/3 innings.

Batting average: He produced a .430 average, leaving him first on the Almont squad and fourth out of those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status.

The junior collected 26 singles, seven doubles, three triples and one home run in 86 bats.

He also contributed 24 stolen bases to Almont’s cause.

This was his third season on Almont’s squad.

Postseason honors: He completed the 2026 campaign as an All-Blue Water Area Conference first team selection and All-District choice.

Trace Dennis, Imlay City, catcher.

Record: Dennis wrapped up the season with a .418 average  That ranked him first on the Imlay City squad and fifth among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees.

The junior had 11 singles, 18 doubles and four home runs in 79 at bats.

He also provided Imlay City 25 RBI and 20 runs scored.

This was his third season on Imlay City’s squad.

Postseason honors: He ended the season as an All-Blue Water Area Conference first team selection.

Wiley Roose, Capac, catcher.

Record: Roose managed a .333 average this season.  That ranked him third on the Capac squad and 11th among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees.

The senior supplied 19 singles and six doubles in 75 at bats.

He also provided Capac with 18 walks and 13 RBI.

In addition to his offensive prowess, Roose made just one error behind the plate in  153 2/3 innings of playing time.

This was his fourth year on Capac’s squad.

Postseason honors: Roose finished the season as a All-District and All-St. Clair County pick and was an All-Big Thumb Conference Black Division second team selection.

Rowan Handley, Dryden, infield.

Record: Handley generated a .484 average, leaving him third on the Dryden squad and third out of those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status during the 2026 campaign.

The senior had 17 singles, eighth doubles, five triples and one home run in 66 at bats.

He also contributed 29 RBI to Dryden’s cause.

This was his fourth year on Dryden’s squad.

Postseason honors: He wrapped up the 2026 campaign as an All-Big Thumb Conference Blue Division first team pick.

Brady Detwiler, Imlay City, infield.

Record: Detwiler amassed a .364 average, leaving him second on the Imlay City squad and seventh out of those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status during the 2026 campaign.

The senior had 26 singles, five doubles and one home run in 88 at bats.

He also contributed 34 runs scored and 20 stolen bases to Imlay City’s cause.

This was his fourth year on Imlay City’s squad.

Postseason honors: He ended the 2026 campaign as an All-Blue Water Area Conference honorable mention choice.

Griffin Wetzel, Imlay City, infield.

Record: Wetzel finished the season with a .299 average.  That ranked him third on the Imlay City squad and 13th among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees.

The sophomore collected 24 singles, seven doubles and one homer in 107 at bats.

This was his second season on Imlay City’s squad.

Postseason honors: Wetzel completed the season as an All-Blue Water Area Conference honorable mention pick.

Austin Howard, Capac, infield.

Record: Howard supplied a .356 average, leaving him second on the Capac squad and out of those who attained Tri-City Times first team status during the 2026 campaign.

The senior provided 21 singles, four doubles and one home run in 73 at bats.

He also contributed 17 RBI and six walks to Capac’s cause.

This was his third year on Capac’s squad.

Postseason honors: He ended the 2026 campaign as an All-District choice.

Brock Murphy. Almont, second base.

Record: Murphy provided a .348 average this season.  That ranked him third on the Almont squad and  10th among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees.

The sophomore had 21 singles and 11 doubles in 92 at bats.

He also contributed 24 RBI to Almont’s cause.

This was his second season on Almont’s squad. 

Postseason honors: Murphy wrapped up the season as an All-District pick and All-Blue Area Conference honorable mention selection.

Colten Karbel, Almont, centerfield.

Record: Karbel furnished a   .369 average, leaving him second on the Almont squad and sixth out of those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status during the 2026 campaign.

The sophomore had  17 singles, 11 doubles, two triples and one home run 84 in at bats.

He also contributed 20 RBI to Almont’s cause.

This was his second year on Almont’s squad.

Postseason honors: Karbel wrapped up the 2026 campaign as an All-Blue Water Area Conference first team selection and All-District choice.

Axel Demaray, Capac, outfield.

Record: Demaray finished with a .319 average this season.  That ranked him fourth on the Capac squad and 12th among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees.

The junior had 22 singles and a double in 72 at bats.

He also provided Capac with 17 stolen bases, 15 walks and 10 RBI.

This was his third year on Capac’s squad.

Postseason honors: Demaray ended the year with All-District accolades as an outfielder.

Second team- Griffin Wetzel, Imlay City, pitcher; Sam Edson, Imlay City, pitcher/shortstop; Axel Demaray, Capac, pitcher; Landon Swain, Almont, pitcher/shortstop; Mason Kruse, catcher, Almont; Paul Swamba, infielder, Capac; Collin Potter, infielder, Capac; and Noah Campbell, outfielder, Almont.

Coach of the Year- Rick Furneaux, who directed Dryden to a 15-7, overall mark, a Division 4 district title and a regional championship game appearance, earns Tri-City Times All-Area Coach of the Year accolades.

He shares that honor with Travis Fahley, who guided Capac to an 18-11 overall mark and Division 4 district title.
