Dryden falls in regional title clash

DRYDEN — Dryden finished their season with a 12-0 setback to Royal Oak Shrine in a Division 4 regional championship matchup last Saturday.

Novi High School is where the action unfolded.

With the outcome, Royal Oak Shrine moves to 25-8 overall. Dryden wraps up a 15-7 campaign.

Dryden Coach Rick Furneaux took time out to reflect on his team’s season and their postseason run.

“We had a great season taking co-champ honors with Kingston,” Furneaux commented. “Our team was able to win the first district title in ten years at Dryden,” he noted.

“We had a big win in the regional semifinal against Kingston. I was able to see lots of growth in all of my players. Going to be sad to see our four seniors (Ian Tresnak, Jayden Stankevich, Rowan Handley and Dylan Lasher) move on. It was a pleasure to coach them.”

In Saturday’s championship matchup, Royal Oak Shrine jumped out to a 3-0 advantage after one inning was complete.

They then followed it up with a 1-0 second inning edge and a 2-0 third inning advantage, widening the gap to 6-0.

Inning four saw Royal Oak Shrine outscore Dryden 1-0 and the fifth saw them amass five runs and allow none, putting the finishing touches on a 12-0 win.

Lasher was the lone Dryden baserunner that day. He drew a walk.
