Fitchett heads to Hope College

DRYDEN — Dryden’s Caila Fitchett inked a pact to become a part of the Hope College women’s track squad recently.

Fitchett is coming off an outstanding junior season which saw her produce a season’s-best 300 hurdle clocking of 49.67 seconds. That left her second Friday, May 9 at the Akron-Fairgrove Invitational.

She also provided Dryden with firsts at the Third Annual Cardinal Classic in Dryden; Marlette-based Get on Track Meet and Marlette Invitational; claimed seconds at the Big Thumb Conference Blue and Red Division League Meet in Deckerville as well as a Dryden-based Division 4 regional; pulled up fourth at the Hurd Invitational in Vassar; took eighth at the Shake Off the Rust Invitational in Davison; and notched an 18th at the Division 4 state finals in Hudsonville.

Fitchett also joined forces with Keira Miller, Karley Philips and Olivia Zellers to generate a Tri-City Area best time of 1:56.94 en route to a fourth at a Dryden-based Division 4 regional on Friday, May 16.

Dryden took firsts at the Third Annual Cardinal Classic it hosted and the Deckerville-based Big Thumb Conference Blue and Red Division Meet; generated a third at the Marlette Invitational; Akron-Fairgrove Invitational; placed sixth at the Hurd Invitational in Vassar; plus added a 16th at the Shake Off the Rust Invitational in Davison.

In addition to that, Fitchett was a part of a Dryden 1600-meter relay squad including Keira Miller, Claire Wright and Cara Pusakiewicz that managed a season’s best clocking of 4:50 for first Tuesday, May 6 at a quad hosted by Mayville.

Dryden’s list of accomplishments included a first at the Marlette-based Get on Track Meet and the Big Thumb Conference Blue and Red Division Meet in Deckerville; collected a third at the Third Annual Cardinal Classic in Dryden; obtained a fourth at a Dryden-based Division 4 regional; took eighth at the Vassar-based Hurd Invitational; supplied a ninth at the Marlette Invitational; plus added a 17th at the Shake Off the Rust Invitational in Davison.

Fitchett was a Tri-City Times All-Area first team selection in each of those aforementioned events.

She also joined forces with Keira Miller, Claire Wright and Cara Prusakiewicz to earn Tri-City Times All-Area second team accolades in the 3200 relay plus was a Tri-City Times All-Area second team choice in the 100-meter dash, 100 hurdles, 200-meter dash and 400 dash.
