So….how big is yours…..

Let’s start with snow. In upper Michigan we have pretty much measured snowfall in feet, heck sometimes by the yard. Of course when you have to shovel it it is always about 6 feet high and heavy as a train. Not fun. I must add a note of praise for all our neighbors to the south (you know, the ones who panic at an inch of snow). This time they seem to be enjoying it a lot – snowmen, sledding, skating, etc. But we do have fun. Every day we can get out, there is always a snowman building contest someplace, a sledding hill with a fire at the top, as in Dryden, ice skating on any of the 30 ponds around Lapeer County, and many more in back yards, fire pits glowing for the day, hot chocolate by the gallon, maybe winter time s’mores, and of course the beauty of it all is out of this world. So how high is the snowman you built, or did you build an igloo? No? Well don’t worry, there is more coming. You have another chance.

Then there is the slippery part of snow, like when you go to your trash can down by the gravel road you live on. Because of the freezing and melting problem in 3 days your trash can can be stuck like glue to the ice under it. You dare not shake it or everything could come rolling out if it tips over too much. You can kick it, it may work, or you can go back to the house and bring a bucket of hot water to the site and pour it at the bottom of the trash can. That will usually do it, but be careful cause now its really slippery all over, and will only get worse when you have to bring said receptical back to its spot.

Here is a recipe my friend gave me for slippery places. INTO A GALLON OF WARM WATER MIX 1 TEASPOON OF DAWN DISH SOAP, 1 TABLESPOON RUBBING ALCOHOL. SHE SAYS YOU ARE TO MIX WELL AND POUR OVER BAD SPOTS OF ICE, THEY WILL MELT AND NOT RE-FREEZE, GOOD ON CEMENT, AND NO SALT. And you thought I wasn’t going to get a recipe in!!

Now to get back to the big question…”IS MARCH GOING TO COME IN LIKE A LION OR A LAMB?” There was no Farmers Almanac for this year, and that darn Phil isn’t talking much now.

And of course, my question to you is…How are you doing on those New Year resolutions? And what did you give up for, or doing special for Lent. For the New Year, I am trying extremely hard not to talk with my face. For this Lent, I am giving up c h o c o l a t e…..Yep, really, I am. I have high expectations of loosing 40 pounds. But did you know that on Sunday you don’t have to? It’s a free day during the Lenten season.
