Five area grapplers take talents to Ford Field

TRI-CITY AREA — When the individual state wrestling final takes place this Friday and Saturday at Detroit’s Ford Field there will be five grapplers hailing from our Tri-City Area schools competing.

In the Division 3 portion of the event, Imlay City will have two boys competing.

Daniel Rojas will get his stint at states underway this Friday against West Branch Ogemaw Heights 132-pound weight class foe Apollo Goulette. They enter the clash sporting 38-12 and 36-11 marks, respectively.

The winner of that clash will square off versus the victor of an encounter between Whitehall’s Max Krukowski (41-8) and Milan’s Patrick McShane (42-9).

Brady Czapiewski (31-17) will open his quest for All-State honors against Whitehall 157-pound counterpart Liam Leeke (47-2).

The survivor of that bout will face the winner of a match involving Kingsford’s Tyler Bray (43-7) and Leslie’s Grason Weber (54-6).

In Division 4, Capac will have two boys participating.

Gabe Peters will begin his stint at states this Friday against Hesperia adversary Carter Fuentes. They enter the 106-pound weight clash with 27-11 and 38-8 records, respectively.

The winner of that battle will square off versus the victor of an encounter between Mancelona’s Mike Clingan (46-7) and Lawton’s AJ Terry (35-10).

Kaleb Pietrzak (25-10) will start his pursuit of All-State accolades against Mayville 285-pound weight class rival Solomon Fisher (29-3).

The survivor of that bout will face the winner of a match involving Charlevoix’s Sawyer Blasczyk (46-2) and Climax-Scotts Cooper Dinse (29-7).

In the girls’ portion of the tournament, Capac will be represented by Ava Klink.

She starts her stint at states this Thursday against Ferndale 155-pound weight class foe Niyar Rines. They enter the clash owning 14-5 and 16-8 records, respectively.

The winner of that clash will square off versus the victor of an encounter between Grand Rapids Forest Hills Eastern’s Mia Hickox (27-9) and Allendale’s Adelyn Ashbay (27-7).
