Dryden falls to Kingston in finals

DRYDEN — Dryden wrapped up their season with a 62-52 setback to Kingston in a Division 4 boys’ district basketball title encounter last Friday night.

Flint Beecher High School is where the action unfolded.

With the outcome, Kingston raises their mark to 14-10 overall. Dryden sees an outstanding 17-8 season conclude.

“We played hard tonight,” Dryden Coach John DelCampo commented. “We had a few defensive lapses that really hurt us,” he noted.

“I am very proud of this team. We came a long way this season.”

In Friday’s encounter, Dryden grabbed a 15-13 edge after one quarter was over.

Quarter two would see Kingston collect 15 points and Dryden generate 11. That left Kingston up 28-26 at the half.

When the action resumed, Kingston started the third quarter strong. Aided by a 7-0 run over a 2:27 span, they were able to increase their cushion to 35-26.

To their credit, Dryden refused to quit. Instead, they bounced back with a 12-10 edge to wrap up the quarter. That enabled them to close the gap to 45-38.

Dryden would continue their comeback bid during the fourth quarter of play. It was there they put together a 6-4 run encompassing a 3:01 stretch, making it a 49-44 contest with 4:59 remaining.

However, Kingston stopped Dryden’s momentum shortly thereafter. They countered that outburst with a 13-8 edge from that point on, securing a 62-52 win at night’s end.

For Dryden, Gianni Coscione led the way with a 15-point effort. Brady Schneider (13 points), Luke Taylor (nine), Hayden Blair (six), Rowan Handley (four), Tyler Roberts (three) and Jax Morley (two) supported his performance.
