Almont boys fall in double overtime

ALMONT — Almont fell three points short when the final scores were tallied, dropping a 68-65 double overtime verdict to North Branch in a Division 2 boys’ district basketball game Monday at Yale High School.

With the result, Almont ends the 2025-26 campaign as owners of a 10-11 mark.

In Monday’s game, Almont spotted North Branch a 14-9 advantage after one quarter was done and made it a 20-20 contest at the half.

When the action resumed, North Branch struck with a 26-15 third quarter advantage to go up 46-35.

Almont then countered with a 20-9 fourth quarter edge, making it 55-55 at the completion of regulation play.

The first overtime saw Almont collect four points as did North Branch, pushing both team’s totals to 59 points.

North Branch then outscored Almont 9-6 during the second overtime session, pulling out a 68-65 victory.

Matthew Bacholzky (19 points, including a pair of trifectas) led Almont’s scoring attack. He was backed by Spencer Kent (11 points), Brody Corneau (10, featuring a trey), Sean O’Neil (eight), Blake Lane (seven), Logan Schapman (six) and Rian O’Neil (four).
