Spartans qualify eight, Raiders two

Caleb McLain, Scott Isaacson, Daniel Rojas, Brady Czapiewski, Alex Pettke, Brayden Cremeans, Jacob Capling and Gavin Smith all placed for Imlay City at Saturday’s Division 3 individual district.

TRI-CITY AREA — Imlay City and Almont advanced eight and two wrestlers, respectively, to a Division 3 regional hosted by Richmond this Saturday.

They qualified with top-four weight class finishes last Saturday at Richmond-based Division 3 individual district.

Brady Czapiewski led Imlay City with a first. Czapiewski reached the championship match at 157 pounds where he pinned Yale’s Hunter Cole with 1:32 elapsed.

Caleb McLain and Daniel Rojas gave Imlay City a second. McLain concluded 113-pound action when he was pinned at the 2:28 mark of his title bout with Yale’s William Lawson and Rojas advanced to the 132-pound championship match where he fell 9-5 to Yale’s Logan Rhodes.

Scott Isaacson and Brayden Cremeans supplied Imlay City’s thirds. Isaacson concluded his stint at 165 pounds with a 6-5 win against Yale’s Caiden Hackett and Cremeans wrapped up 285-pound action when he pinned Livonia Clarenceville’s Kayden Dickey-Vinton with 1:39 gone.

Jacob Capling, Gavin Smith and Alex Pettke tacked on fourths to Imlay City’s cause. Capling finished his stint at 126 pounds when he was pinned by Armada’s Connor Harmon with 59 seconds elapsed; Smith ended 138-pound action when he was pinned by Almont’s Landon Watkins with 57 seconds gone; and Pettke finished his stint at 215 pounds when he was pinned by Warren Lincoln’s Aaden Kindle with 29 seconds elapsed.

Josiah Clark and Landin Watkins paced Almont with thirds that day. Clark wrapped up 144-pound action with a 16-1 victory over Richmond’s Will Peters; and Watkins finished 138-pound action when he pinned Imlay City’s Gavin Smith with 57 seconds elapsed.
