Chiefs send seven to regionals

Luca Longo, Jake Barbier, Gabe Peters, Sam Schneider, Peyton Frankowiak, Connor Powers and Kaleb Pietrzak placed for Capac at a Division 4 individual district last Saturday.

CAPAC — The Capac wrestling team will send seven grapplers on to this Saturday’s Division 4 individual regionals hosted by Whitmore Lake High School.

They earned the right to compete there with top-four weight class showings last Saturday at a Clinton-based Division 4 individual district.

Gabe Peters and Luca Longo led Capac with seconds that day. Peters reached the title bout at 106 pounds where he was pinned by Clinton’s Hudson Miller with 1:03 elapsed and Longo concluded his tournament stint with a 5-2 championship match loss to Riverview Gabriel Richard’s 120-pound foe Jacob Kelly.

Connor Powers and Kaleb Pietrzak provided Capac with thirds. Powers wrapped up 215-pound action when he pinned Lutheran Westland’s Caleb Rupe with 41 seconds gone and Pietrzak finished his stint at 285 pounds when he pinned Mount Clemens counterpart David Ellis with 1:10 elapsed.

Jake Barbier, Sam Schneider and Peyton Frankowiak added fourths to Capac’s cause. Barbier ended 120-pound action with a 19-2 setback to Clarkston Everest Collegiate’s Benjamin Czach; Schneider concluded his stint at 138 pounds with a 10-6 loss to Clinton’s Wyatt Cooley; and Frankowiak wrapped up 190-pound action with a 17-0 setback to Clinton’s Owen Wright.
