Capac grabs district title

CAPAC — The Capac wrestling team saw to it that their season would continue a bit longer, registering a first-place finish at a Division 4 dual district it hosted last Thursday.

With the outcome, Capac (23-7) advances to Wednesday’s regional at home where it will square off versus ninth-ranked Manchester in a semifinal clash. That matchup lists a 6 p.m. starting time.

Capac started their successful district run with a 59-21 win against Mount Clemens.

A group consisting of Gabe Peters, Sam Schneider, Nathan Macker, Peyton Frankowiak and Connor Powers led Capac with wins by pin. Peters took 31 seconds to stop Masan Parks at 113 pounds; Schneider required 2:29 to down 138-pound foe Demetrius Thacker; Macker needed 2:33 to beat Antoine Hamilton at 150 pounds; Frankowiak took 2:33 to to upend 190-pound counterpart Brandon Huling; and Powers needed 52 seconds to defeat German Carreon at 215 pounds.

Jake Barbier (120), Luca Longo (126), Preston Vamvas (144), Seth Turner (157) and Zachary Stroup (175) added victories by void to Capac’s cause.

Capac lost one team point due to unsportsmanlike conduct.

Later that night, Capac closed out a successful two-match stint with a 53-29 triumph against Memphis.

Isabella Chapa, Longo, Schneider, Stroup and Powers collected wins by pin for Capac. Chapa needed 1:49 to conquer 106-pound adversary Aiden Stocks; Longo took 1:44 to best Ethan Peacock at 126 pounds; Schneider required 58 seconds to turn back 138-pound rival Zack Thomas; Stroup needed 1:08 to upend Chris Reschke at 175 pounds; and Powers took 1:08 to upend 215-pound foe Garrick Lichota.

Peters (113), Barbier (120) and Pietrzak (285) contributed victories by void to Capac’s cause.

Vamvas was the other Capac grappler who prevailed, accomplishing the feat with an 18-2 triumph against Nolan Boughner at 144 pounds.
