Spartans fall twice to BWAC foes

IMLAY CITY — The Imlay City wrestling team fell twice in a pair of Blue Water Area Conference duals it hosted last Thursday.

Imlay City started things off with a 39-33 setback to Armada.

James Johnson, Daniel Rojas, Gavin Smith and Scott Isaacson led Imlay City with triumphs via the pinfall route. Johnson took 5:36 to beat 126-pound foe Connor Harmon; Rojas needed 1:21 to stop Gabriel Aiello at 138 pounds; Smith required 5:51 to defeat 144-pound counterpart Grant Witgen; and Isaacson took 2:46 to turn back William Arnold at 175 pounds.

Wade Murray (132) provided Imlay City with a victory by void.

Alex Pettke registered the other Imlay City triumph, handing Kaden Meeks a 6-5 setback at 215 pounds.

Imlay City also faced Algonac that evening, dropping a 59-7 verdict.

Brady Czapiewski notched the best Imlay City showing, claiming a 12-4 win against 157-pound counterpart Jack Madena.

Smith was the other Imlay City grappler who prevailed, securing a 7-0 victory over Harlan Christie at 138 pounds.
