Capac councilman arrested on “Enticement of a Minor” charge

Taken into custody while at Mussey Twp. fire hall

 

MUSSEY TWP. — The Village of Capac village council is missing one of it’s members, following an incident that took place in the township on November 25.

According to Capac Police Chief Carlos Dealca, two law enforcement agencies responded to the Mussey Twp. hall around 1:30 p.m. and made contact with Joseph Herrington.

Herrington serves as vice-president of the Village Council and is also a member of the township fire department where he worked as the department’s training officer.

Village manager Travis Youatt said although Herrington is not employed by the village, they are cooperating with Texas authorities in their investigation.

He said, “typically in these situations, a person may resign their position (council). The position was coming up anyways at our December council meeting when the president picks who will serve as vice-president.”

According to a statement from Chief Dealca, “On November 25, 2025, at approximately 13:30 hours, the Capac Police Department responded to 550 W. Mill Street (Mussey Fire Department) to assist the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office with a warrant arrest.”

Chief Dealca went on to say in his statement, “Deputies made contact with the suspect, Joseph Herrington, who had an active warrant out of Denton County, Texas, for Enticement of a Minor.”

Denton County is northwest of the Fort Worth – Dallas Metroplex.

The chief said Herrington was taken into custody without incident and transported to the St. Clair County Jail, where he is currently being lodged pending further proceedings.

Herrington has been a member of the fire department for several years, working full-time. According to the State of Michigan’s LARA directory of fire departments, Mussey Twp. Fire Department covers 60 square miles, including the Village of Capac. The department has 14 part-time paid firefighters according to the LARA website.

Due to the alleged incident occurring in another state, Herrington could be facing Federal charges.

He was housed in the St. Clair County jail last week until further court action was taken, sometime after the Thanksgiving holiday.
