Almont rolls past Clintondale, 42-12

ALMONT — Top-ranked Almont rolled past visiting Clintondale, 42-12, in a Division 6 district opening round football game last Friday night.

With the decision, Almont improves to 10-0 overall. Clintondale concludes a 5-5 season.

“Game one went just as we expected,” Almont Coach James Leusby commented. “Our guys came ready to play, executed well and we were able to get everyone some valuable playoff experience,” he noted.

“That’s always a great opportunity this time of year. Every rep matters and that experience will pay off as the competition grows tougher.”

In Friday’s contest, Almont jumped out to a 21-0 advantage after one quarter was over and increased their cushion to 42-6 at the half.

That was followed by a scoreless third quarter.

Clintondale then struck with a 6-0 fourth quarter edge, only to fall 42-12.

Almont produced their winning 42-point total aided by a Matthew Bacholzky 26-yard touchdown run (followed by a Brody Corneau PAT tote); a Shepherd Moussiaux five-yard touchdown run; a Dontae DeSano 31-yard touchdown run (followed by a successful extra point kick courtesy of Sean O’Neil); a Blake Lane to Nick Vigiletti seven-yard touchdown pass (followed by an accurate extra point boot from O’Neil); a Moussiaux one-yard touchdown run (followed by a successful extra point boot courtesy of O’Neil); and a Lane to Corneau 50-yard touchdown pass (followed by a successful extra point kick courtesy of O’Neil).

For the evening, Lane connected on three of six pass plays for 64 yards as Almont’s quarterback. He threw zero interceptions en route to those numbers.

His successful tosses were distributed to three different targets. Their ranks consisted of Corneau (one catch for 50 yards) plus Logan Schapman and Vigiletti (one reception for seven yards each). The Almont ground attack finished with 208 yards on 32 totes.

DeSano (six rushes for 49 yards), Corneau (45 yards on five totes) and Bacholzky (three rushes for 40 yards), notched Almont’s best individual outputs. The remaining 18 Raider rushes resulted in a combined 75-yard gain.

Cohen Ferqueron (one solo and nine assists) and Colten Karbel (three solos and five assists) supplied the highest Almont tackle totals. Ayden Battani (four solos and two assists), Gordon Stolecki (one solo and five assists), Jacob Stewart (six assists) and Miguel Luciano (one solo and four assists) made their presence felt as well.

The Almont defense also registered one takeaway. Bacholzky (an interception) furnished that.

Almont will look to keep their perfect record intact this Friday when it will entertain fourth-rated Marine City (7-3) in a Division district title encounter. That matchup lists a 7 p.m. starting time.
