Capac stuns Deckerville

CAPAC — Unrated Capac snapped host Deckerville’s 20-game winning streak, handing their Big Thumb Conference rival and Division 2’s top-ranked eight-man football team a 28-20 setback last Friday night.

With the final, Capac improves to 6-2 and 5-2. Deckerville slips to 7-1 and 6-1.

“Our team played their best game of the season tonight and they picked a great game to do it,” Capac Co-Coach Troy Schneider commented. “We had a lot of things go our way and made plays in key situations.” he noted.

In Friday’s matchup, Capac and Deckerville finished the opening quarter with zero points apiece.

Quarter two saw Deckerville manage six points and Capac none.

When the action resumed, Deckerville padded its cushion some. Aided by a 8-6 edge, the Eagles widened the gap to 14-12.

Capac then outscored Deckerville 16-6 the rest of the way, pulling out a 28-20 victory.

The winning Capac side generated their 28-point total aided by a Sam Schneider 40-yard touchdown run; a Brody Tesnow to Wiley Roose 32-yard touchdown pass; a Peyton Frankowiak five-yard touchdown run (followed by a Schneider PAT tote); and a Schneider to Frankowiak 33-yard touchdown pass (followed by a Schneider PAT tote).

For the evening, Tesnow completed eight of 15 pass plays for 61 yards as Capac’s quarterback. He threw zero interceptions along the way

Schneider was the other Capac performer who opted to air out the football. His lone attempt went for a 33-yard completion.

Four different targets caught passes for Capac that evening. Their ranks consisted of Boston Vock (four receptions for 16 yards), Roose (three catches for 41 yards), Frankowiak (a reception for 32 yards) and Schneider (one catch for four yards).

The Capac ground attack added 257 yards on 41 totes.

Schneider (33 rushes for 225 yards) and Frankowiak (21 yards on five totes) posted Capac’s top totals. The remaining three Chief rushes netted a combined 11-yard gain.

Schneider (nine solos and six assists), Bryce Lietz (seven solos and three assists) and Gabe Peters (six solos and three assists) registered Capac’s highest tackle outputs. Brendan Bussone and Frankowiak (five solos and two assists apiece) along with Seth Turner and Zack Stroup (two solos and three assists each) also made their presence known.

The Capac defense also managed one takeaway. Frankowiak (a fumble recovery) notched that.

Capac will look to close out their regular season with a win this Friday when they entertain Peck. The non-league clash lists a 7 p.m. starting time.
