Imlay City drops battle with Yale

IMLAY CITY — Imlay City fell by a narrow 14-12 count to host Yale in a Blue Water varsity football battle last Friday night.

With the decision, Yale moves to 2-2 and 1-2. Imlay City falls to 1-3 and 0-3.

In Friday’s battle, Imlay City spotted Yale a 7-0 advantage after one quarter and trailed 14-6 at the half.

Imlay City then struck with a 6-0 third quarter edge, closing the deficit to 14-12.

That was followed by a scoreless final quarter, leaving Yale with a 14-12 win to celebrate at night’s end.

Imlay City generated their 14-point total aided by a Brady Homer to Brett Lestage eight-yard touchdown pass and a one-yard touchdown run by Homer.

For the night, Homer connected on seven of 14 pass plays for 147 yards as Imlay City’s quarterback. He threw zero interceptions along the way.

His successful tosses went to three different targets. Their ranks consisted of Lestage (five catches for 123 yards), Jovani Pena (one reception for 20 yards) and Trystan Whiting (one catch for four yards).

The Imlay City ground attack managed 118 yards on 32 totes.

Individually, Daniel Rojas (12 rushes for 58 yards) and Homer (44 yards on 15 rushes) proved Imlay City’s toughest players to stop. The remaining five Spartan totes netted a combined 16-yard gain.

Rojas (eight) posted Imlay City highest tackle total. Lestage and Homer (six stops each) supported his performance.

Imlay City will look to bounce back this Friday when it entertains Algonac. The Blue Water Area Conference contest, Imlay City’s homecoming, lists a 7 p.m. starting time.
