BREAKING NEWS: Armada sophomore passes away after crash
ARMADA — An Armada area teen died as a result of his injuries in a tragic crash early Friday morning. According to authorities, around 5:35 am, Metro North Post Michigan State Police Troopers responded to a traffic crash on Armada Center Rd. near True Rd. in Armada Twp. 9-1-1 calls reported a traffic crash involving an SUV and bicyclist. Preliminary investigation indicated a westbound 2018 Jeep Compass driven by a 66-year-old Memphis man was passing another vehicle when it struck a 16-year-old Armada boy who was riding a bicycle. Emergency responders provided medical treatment on scene and he was later transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. No other injuries were reported.
Armada Superintendent Michael Musary issued a statement, following the incident, saying, “It is with a heavy heart that I write to inform you about a recent loss to our school community. This morning we learned a current sophomore was tragically killed in an accident early this morning. Since news of the death (was received) the school has implemented a crisis response plan to help any students and staff respond to the heartbreaking news.” The school, in cooperation with the Macomb County ISD, made counselors available throughout the day Friday, for those needing to speak with someone regarding the tragedy. The fatal incident remains under investigation.
