Dryden opens with narrow win, 40-38

DRYDEN — Dryden slipped past host North Huron, 40-38, in a non-league varsity football game last Thursday night.

With the result, Dryden goes to 1-0 overall. North Huron falls to 0-1 this season.

“I am very happy with the outcome of the game,” Dryden Coach Hunter Gall comented. “We have a lot of things to clean up and work on as the season progresses,” he noted.

“The boys showed a lot of heart after we went down two scores later in the game. They stayed composed and made the plays that ultimately got us the win.”

For the evening, Gianni Coscione completed 17 of 29 pass plays for 349 yards as Dryden’s quarterback.

His successful tosses went to four different targets Santiago Perales (nine catches for 207 yards), Rowan Handley (four receptions for 68 yards), Brady Schneider (three catches for 73 yards) and Luke Kage (one reception for one yard) formed that group.

The Dryden ground attack added 182 yards on 21 totes.

Individually, Coscione (14 rushes for 114 yards) led Dryden Schneider added 68 yards on seven carries to the Cardinals’ cause.

Schneider (11), Coscione (six) plus Luke Taylor and Callum Brown (five each) posted Dryden’s highest tackle outputs. They were backed by Tyler Roberts, Kage and Handley (three stops each) along with Logan Korth (two).

The Dryden defense also registered two takeaways. Schneider (an interception) and Handley (a fumble recovery) furnished those.

Dryden returns to action this Friday when it travels to Deckerville. That game is slated to get underway at 7 p.m.
