Utility work on I-69 in Lapeer County

TRI-CITY AREA — Motorists traveling I-69 in Lapeer County may have to seek an alternate route, if they are driving during the evening hours. According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, an overnight closure on I-69 Aug. 23 is planned for utility work. MDOT has issued a permit for utility work on I-69, from Wilder Road to Lake Pleasant Road. This work will require temporarily closing both directions of I-69 overnight. The shutdown could impact motorists driving in the area of Lapeer, Attica and Imlay City, along with other communities. The work will get underway at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23 and wrap up around 5 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 24, 2025. MDOT officials say traffic restrictions are as follows: Eastbound traffic will be detoured via Wilder Road Exit 159, southbound Wilder Road, eastbound Newark Road and northbound Lake Pleasant Road back to I-69. Westbound traffic will be detoured via Lake Pleasant Road Exit 163, southbound Lake Pleasant Road, westbound Newark Road, and northbound Wilder Road back to I-69. Motorists should expect delays. This work is weather dependent. According to MDOT, closing the roadway will ensure the safety of utility workers and motorists as overhead lines are installed over the roadway.
