Peter is hurdle champ for Trine

DRYDEN — Former Dryden High School standout Sophia Peter came up big for the Trine University women’s track team at the MIAA Outdoor Championships recently.

The meet was contested May 1-2 at Alma College.

Peter, a freshman, won the 100-meter hurdles with a clocking of 15.32 seconds.

Her effort matched the time of posted by Calvin College’s Mia DeJonge, who she outleaned in the closing stages of the race to obtain a top finish.

She also joined forces with Mackenzie Miller, Ariana Todd and Emma Forker for a second among 400 relay entrants. They were timed in 48.41 seconds.

Peter would provide Trine with a 100-meter dash time of 12.75 seconds as well, paving the way to a fifth.

She also ranked ninth with a 200-meter dash preliminary clocking of 26.77 seconds.

Calvin won the meet with 282.5 points. They were followed by Trine (194 points), Hope (147.5), Olivet (84), Albion (55), Adrian (45) and Alma (28).
