Keep chasing all the good people away
Dear Editor,
For some time, well before the forcible end to my volunteer service on the (Almont) DDA, I have been purposefully backing away and letting those within my leadership take more of an authoritative role.
As one example, the creation of the various committees for the inner workings of DDA.
Another example was not being a presenter in the Social District meeting that occurred at the firehall.
And the most recent and final one, being transparent to the public in the November 2024 meeting knowing that I couldn’t attend the following meeting in December.
As a leader, you try to assess and evaluate those you are tasked to lead. Especially if you plan to no longer continue to serve past your time that was originally set to expire in 2027.
Unfortunately, there have been actions taken over this timeframe that have tested my trust and confidence.
My family has heard that I was “losing it” through the Almont grapevine back around Christmas. LMAO!
Only thing I was losing was my faith in those to continue to do the right thing. With that said, as a leader we are here to still protect our people, the processes, and ultimately the job “community” we are tasked to oversee.
With what has been shared, I take full ownership of all that I have said in public or behind the scenes… hopefully those who took action against myself and others in the community do the same.
The only real criticism that I have heard against my leadership abilities is that I don’t play politics.
There is a reason that I don’t do that…. because you really don’t want that to occur.
Besides, I choose to stick to verifiable and provable facts as the truth is always the best defense.
Sadly those I once trusted have forced me to be put into the position to defend… not by my words and actions -but theirs.
On a positive note… thanks! I’ve got my life back. The only stress my wife and I have had since moving to Almont 6 years ago has been volunteering.
Keep chasing all the good people away… you’re doing a great job!
