Dryden earns a regional title

 

DRYDEN — The Dryden girls’ track squad earned a first-place finish last Friday at a Division 4 regional it hosted.

Dryden topped the standings with 86 points. They were followed by International Academy of Flint (75 points), Oakland Christian (73), Birmingham Roeper (72), Sterling Heights Parkway (65), Clarkston Everest Collegiate (54), Austin Catholic (37), Cardinal Mooney (34), Genesee (31), Mt. Clemens (29), Flint Beecher (10), Memphis (four) and Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes (two).

The top-two finishers in each event plus anyone else who bests or equals a state set height, distance or clocking continues their postseason path Saturday, May 31 at the Division 4 state finals in Hudsonville.

A 3200 relay of Caila Fitchett, Keira Miller, Claire Wright and Cara Prusakiewicz led Dryden with a first. It took them 11:44.52 to accomplish the feat.

Olivia Zellers, high jump, 4 feet 2 inches; and Fitchett, 300-meter hurdles, 49.79 seconds; supplied Dryden’s seconds.

Miller, long jump, 14 feet 7 inches; and Prusakiewicz, 1600 run, 6:00.4; collected Dryden’s individual event thirds.

The Dryden 400-meter relay of McKinley Gammon, Mya Hill, Mallory Barker and MaKayla Mater obtained a third as well. They were timed in 59.8 seconds.

Mater, 300 hurdles, 1:00.72; Wright, 1600 6:10.9) and 3200-meter 12:54.44 runs; contributed Dryden’s individual event fourths.

The Dryden 800 (Karley Phillips, Miller, Zellers and Fitchett) and 1600 (Phillips, Barker, Prusakiewicz and Miller) relays wound up fourth as well. They registered 1:56.94 and 4:55.67 clockings, respectively.

Mikayla Fleming, discus, 67 feet 7 inches; Fitchett, 200-meter dash, 28.62 seconds; Zellers, 800 run, 2:54.09; and Prusakiewicz, 3200-meter run, 13:06.35; garnered Dryden’s fifths.

Barker, long jump, 13 feet; added an eighth to Dryden’s cause.
