Lengemann plays in NCAA Tourney

Imlay standout has outstanding junior season at Embry-Riddle

 

IMLAY CITY — Former Imlay City standout Mary Lengemann completed a successful season with the Embry- Riddle women’s basketball team recently.

The squad finished the regular season portion of their schedule as owners of a 23-4 overall mark, That included a 17-3 Sunshine State Conference showing, good enough for second place.

Embry-Riddle started the Sunshine State Conference Tournament it hosted with a 72-62 quarterfinal win against Saint Leo on Tuesday, March 4.

There Lengemann, a 5-11 junior, provided Embry-Riddle with an 11-point performance.

She also contributed four rebounds to their cause.

Two days later, Embry-Riddle prevailed again. This time they picked up a 60-56 victory over Eckerd.

In the semifinal contest, Lengemann notched a double-double, helping Embry-Riddle post a favorable verdict. Her effort included 13 points and 11 rebounds.

The team then faced Nova Southeastern for tournament honors on Tuesday, March 9.

When the final scores were added up, Embry-Riddle registered a 55-51 triumph against Nova Southeastern.

Those outcomes earned Embry-Riddle a spot in the NCAA Division 2 Tournament field.

Playing in the South Region at Jackson, Tennessee, Embry-Riddle drew South Florida as their opening round assignment on Friday, March 14. That clash saw Embry-Riddle hand South Florida a 70-56 setback.

Lengeman finished with five rebounds and three points in the win.

The team then squared off versus
Nova Southeastern in a semifinal contest on Saturday March 15. It was there Nova Southeastern (27-6) made Embry-Riddle (27-5) absorb a 66-63 loss.

There Lengemann collected seven rebounds and three points for Embry-Riddle.

Lengeman ended the season averaging 9.0 points and 5.0 rebounds a contest, ranking third on the team in both statistical categories. She also added 1.5 assists per contest.

In addition to that, Lengemann was named to the 2024-25 Academic All-District lineup as announced by College Sports Communications recently.

One of the nation’s highest honors, the CSC Academic All-District program recognizes student athletes separately across NCAA Division 1, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA for their combined performance on the field and in the classroom. To be recognized, student-athletes must have a 3.5 grade point average and have played in at least 90 percent of their team’s contests from the current season.

An aeronautical science major, Lengemann sports a 3.55 grade point average.
