Ross is Div. 3 state champ
ALMONT — Almont senior Hunter Ross earned a first-place finish last Saturday at the Michigan High School Boys’ Bowling State Singles Championship.
Jax 60 Lanes, in Jackson, is where the action unfolded.
He started his title-producing run with a six-game qualifying block of 1,347. It included games of 238, 221, 182, 246. 193 and 267.
That left him as the number two seed entering bracket play.
Ross began the round of 16 with a 449-337 win against Olivet’s Michael Fitz, the 15th seed.
He then followed it up with a 409-357 quarterfinal victory over Hopkins foe Brad Reynolds, who was seeded 10th, and registered 443-406 semifinal triumph against Gladstone’s Matt Meyer, who was seeded sixth.
Ross then faced Cros-Lex counterpart Josh Gunderson for tournament honors next. That battle drew to a close with Ross pulling out a 377-375 victory.
