Land, Galiana are fourth at finals

IMLAY CITY — Imlay City 126-pounder Tanner Land and 132-pounder Chris Galiana earned fourth-place finishes in their respective weight classes last Friday and Saturday at the Division 3 state finals.

Ford Field, Detroit, is where the action unfolded.

Land (39-9) began tournament action Friday when he pinned Watervliet’s Luke Isbrecht with (40-8) with 4:00 gone.

Imlay City 132-pounder Chris Galiana looks to finish off a win against Frankenmuth’s Bradyn Curtis at the Div. 3 individual state wrestliing finals last Friday.

He then went to 1-1 with a 14-3 loss to Grant Rapids Catholic Central’s Dale Gant (37-1), the eventual state champion.

Land then bounced back with a 15-0 win against Clare’s Logan Carstensen, who was 26-9 when they collided.

That landed him an appearance in Saturday’s action.

It was there he obtained a 4-1 victory over Lakewood’s Vincent Stamm and registered a 9-6 triumph against Grant’s Alex Russo.

He then met Dundee’s Bryan Sterling for third place honors next.

When that bout concluded, Sterling had earned a 7-0 win.

That left Land with a fourth-place showing.

Land earned All-State accolades for his finish.

Galiana (41-9) started his stint at states Friday with a 16-4 victory over Adrian Madison’s Paul McClure (33-14).

He then pinned Frannkenmuth’s Bradyn Curtis, who was 34-6 when they met, with 4:41 gone.

Next up was a match versus Algonac’s Lucky Gartin (52-6). That battle ended with Gattin, the eventual state runnerup, ahead 10-6.

Galiana moved on to Saturday’s action next.

It was there he registered a 6-3 sudden victory outcome versus Yale’s Kersten McClelland, the eventual fifth-place finisher.

He then faced Shepherd’s Micah Curtiss for third place honors next. There clash ended with Curtiss ahead 15-5.

For his showing, Galiana claimed All-State accolades.
