Dryden falls in district finals

DRYDEN — Dryden wrapped up an outstanding season with a 62-55 overtime loss to visiting Genesee Christian in a Division 4 boys’ district basketball title game last Friday night.

With the decision, Genesee Christian moves to 9-14 this season. Dryden closes out a 15-8 campaign.

“It was a great high school game,” Dryden Coach John DelCampo commented. “Both teams played hard,” he emphasized.

“I am proud of the way our kids came back in the fourth quarter.”

In Friday’s game, Genesee took an 18-14 edge after one quarter was over and widened the gap to 28-21 at halftime.

When the action resumed, Genesee struck with a 14-11 third quarter edge to go ahead 42-32 with 24 minutes gone.

Dryden then bounced back with a 22-12 fourth quarter rally, highlighted by Sonny Coscione’s successful three-point attempt at buzzer. His clutch shot made it a 54-54 ball game and sent the contest on to overtime.

It was there Genesee Christian outscored Dryden 7-1, earning a 62-55 win.

Gianni Coscione paced Dryden with 18 points. He was backed by Luke Taylor (13 points), Sonny Coscione (11), Brady Schneider (six), Hayden Blair (four), David Insley (two) and Nick Abromatis (one).
