Capac grapplers claim second in team district

CAPAC — The Capac wrestling team claimed a second-place showing at a Division 4 dual district last Thursday.

Brown City High School is where the action unfolded.

Capac began their two-match stint with a 43-30 win against Brown City.

Alberto Chapa, Peyton Frankowiak and Connor Powers led Capac with victories by pin. Chapa required 1:26 to beat 132-pound foe Max Trombley and Frankowiak needed 2:46 to stop Robert Nieman at 175 pounds; and Powers took 1:02 to down 215-pound counterpart Noah Holland.

Ryan Grant (126), Preston Vamvas (150) and Zachary Stroup (157) gave Capac triumphs by void.

Jacob Clowers provided Capac with a win by major decision, posting an 18-9 outcome versus Daniel Mulholland at 165 pounds.

Sam Schneider was the other Capac grappler who prevailed, earning a 19-12 victory over 138-pound adversary Jayce Halbert.

Capac then faced Memphis in the district championship match next.

When the final scores were tallied, Memphis notched a 52-25 victory.

Supplying Capac with triumphs by pinfall were Clowers and Powers. The former took 1:45 to down 165-pound foe Timothy Short and the latter required 2:59 to upend Carter Long at 215 pounds.

Chapa and Schneider collected wins by technical fall for Capac. The former picked up a 17-1 victory over 126-pound rival Spencer Tomaszek and the latter registered a 21-6 triumph against Ryver Short at 138 pounds.

Cierra Helzer added an 8-5 win over Ethan Peacock to Capac’s cause.

With the results, Capac wraps up a 15-13 dual campaign.
