Spartans ninth at New Lothrop

Imlay City’s Christopher Galiana makes sure North Branch 132-pound foe Christian Rodriguez does not escape his hold Saturday in New Lothrop.

IMLAY CITY — The Imlay City wrestling team amassed 67 points, paving the way to a two-way tie for ninth at the New Lothrop Hall of Fame Tournanent last Saturday.

St. Louis (188.5 points) topped the standings at day’s end. They were followed by Freeland (175.5 points), Mason (175), Montrose (151.5), North Branch (150.5), Leslie (93.5), Corunna (76), St. Johns (69), Imlay City and New Lothrop (67 each), Kearsley (56.5), Richmond (54), Millington (45), Perry (41), Beaverton (38), Dundee (33.5), Chesaning (32), Marquette (20), Owosso (14), Powers Catholic (nine-and-a-half) and Onaway (nine).

Tanner Land and Christopher Galiana paced Imlay City with thirds. Land finished 126-pound action when he pinned New Lothrop’s Hunter Wolf with 1:45 elapsed and Galiana ended his stint at 132 pounds with a 14-5 win against North Branch’s Christian Rodriguez.

Kaden Powers provided Imlay City with a fifth. Powers closed out 175-pound action when he pinned Richmond’s Zack Pickering with 4:09 elapsed.

Caleb McLain added a sixth to Imlay City’s cause. He wrapped up his stint at 113 pounds when he was pinned by Dundee’s Jesse Wertenberger with 3:00 gone.
