Spartans give Raiders a setback

IMLAY CITY — Imlay City registered a 51-15 triumph against visiting Almont in a Blue Water Area Conference varsity girls’ basketball meeting last Thursday night.

With the outcome, Imlay City moves to 4-4 and 2-1. Almont drops to 1-6 and 0-4.

In Thursday’s meeting, Imlay City bolted out to a 17-7 advantage after one quarter was complete and widened the gap to 26-13 at the half.

When the action resumed, Imlay City picked up where it left off. Aided by a 16-1 third quarter edge, the Spartans increased their cushion to 42-14 with 24 minutes gone.

Imlay City then outscored Almont 9-1 the rest of the way, closing out a 51-15 win.

Alexis Bruyere collected 37 points to lead Imlay City. The Spartans also received points courtesy of Alexa Lengemann (six), Addison Cameron (four) plus Savannah Douglas, and Montanna Eads and (two each).

Gabby Carlson paced Almont with six points. She was backed by Madi Derk (three points) Rachael Johnson and Eva Rayl (two apiece) along with Vivian Asaro and Noelle Bourdeau (one each).
