Dryden boys repeat as champions

 

DRYDEN — The Dryden varsity boys’ basketball team made it back-to-back years as champions, accomplishing the feat with a 65-47 triumph against Webberville in the finals of the Paul Grondin Classic it hosted last Friday.

With the outcome, Dryden raises their mark to 4-3 overall. Webberville drops to 6-1 this season.

“It was a great win and a lot of players contributed,” Dryden Coach John DelCampo commented. “It was our best 32 minutes of this season and was against a good well-coached team,” he noted.

In Friday’s title confrontation, Dryden bolted out to a 19-8 advantage after one quarter was over.

The middle two quarters saw Webberville counter with a 27-26 edge. That made it 45-35, Dryden, with 24 minutes elapsed.

Dryden then bounced back with a 20-12 advantage over the final eight minutes of play, leaving with a 65-47 win to their credit.

Sonny Coscione collected 16 points, including a trifecta, and Gianni Coscione supplied 15, featuring a pair of treys, to lead Dryden. David Insley (12 points) and Brady Schneider (11, with a triple) hit for double figures as well. Nick Abromaitis (six points, featuring a pair of treys). Drew Raymond (three) and Luke Taylor (two) also reached the scoring column.
