Cards outlast Chiefs in tourney, 67-59

TRI-CITY AREA — The Dryden varsity boys’ basketball team outlasted visiting Capac 67-59, in a semifinal round matchup at the Paul Grondin Classic last Thursday.

With the outcome, Dryden improves to 3-3 overall. Capac falls to 1-5 this season.

In Thursday’s matchup, Dryden spotted Capac a 12-7 edge after one quarter was done.

Capac followed it up with a 24-15 second quarter advantage, good for a 36-22 lead at the half.

When the action resumed, Dryden bounced back with a 24-12 third quarter edge. That trimmed their deficit to 48-46 with 24 minutes elapsed.

Dryden then outscored Capac 21-11 the rest of the way, closing out a 67-59 win.

Gianni Coscione (21, including a pair of trifectas), Sonny Coscione (14, featuring a trey), David Insley (13) and Luke Taylor (10) led Dryden with double digit point totals. The Cardinals also had Nick Abromaitis (six points, with a pair of triples) and Brady Schneider (a trifecta) reach the scoring column.

Boston Vock (24 points, featuring a trey) proved Capac’s toughest player to stop. He was backed by Austin Howard (10 points, with a pair of triples), Wiley Roose (10), Joe Dalessandro and Aaron Coltson (five each), Adam Schaefer (a trifecta) and Alan Uribe-Arce (two).
