Cards get buzzer-beater

TRI-CITY AREA — Keira Miller made a layup as time expired, lifting Dryden to a dramatic 46-45 victory over Almont in a non-league varsity girls’ basketball battle last Friday night.

With the decision, Dryden improves to 1-1 overall. Almont slips to 0-1 this season.

In Friday’s battle, Almont grabbed a 13-10 edge after one quarter was complete.

Quarter two saw Dryden counter with a 13-10 advantage, making it 23-23 at the half.

When the action resumed, Almont bounced back with a 6-3 third quarter edge. That left them holding a 29-26 cushion with 24 minutes elapsed.

Dryden then put together a 20-16 fourth quarter rally, pulling out a 46-45 victory.

Keira Miller (19 and Jalynn Delmotte (12, featuring four treys) led Dryden with double digit point totals. They were backed by Isabella Weier (nine points, with a pair of triples) and Kierstyn Stankevich (a pair of trifectas).

Rachael Johnson (21 points, featuring five treys) paced Almont’s scoring attack. Gabby Carlson (eight points), Natalia Radisavljevic and Maddie Derk (six, with a triple, each) plus Samantha Miodowski and Vivian Asaro (two apiece) supported their performance.
