Spartans lose a close one to Flint Powers

IMLAY CITY — Imlay City put up a good fight, only to drop a 64-58 verdict to Flint Powers in a varsity boys’ basketball battle last Saturday afternoon.

Saginaw Valley State University is where the action unfolded.

It was the season-opener for both squads.

In Saturday’s battle, Imlay City spotted Flint Powers a 25-17 advantage after one quarter was over with and trailed 34-31 at the half.

When the action resumed, Flint Powers struck with a 12-9 third quarter edge. That pushed their cushion to 46-40 with 24 minutes gone.

Both sides netted 18 points each from that point, leaving Flint Powers up 64-58 at game’s end.

Zander Nash (19 points) and Landon Jones (16) proved Imlay City’s toughest players to stop. They were backed by Matt Evans (nine points), Isaac Sommer (seven), Jack Siegler (three) along with Andrew Cezik and Trystan Whiting (two each).
