Raiders run past Detroit Edison, 41-22

 

ALMONT — Almont put the finishing touches on an unbeatenvarsity football regular season run with a 41-22 win against host Detroit Edison last Friday afternoon.

With the decision, Almont moves to 9-0. Detroit Edison slips to 6-3.

In Friday’s matchup, Almont took a 16-8 advantage after one quarter was done and increased their cushion to 23-14 at halftime.

When the action resumed, Almont struck with a 15-0 third quarter advantage. That left them up 38-14 with 36 minutes gone.

Detroit Edison then outscored Almont 8-3 the rest of the way, only to drop a 41-22 verdict.

Almont produced their winning 41-point total aided by a Luke Winkler 68-yard touchdown run (followed by a two-point conversion); a Jacob Stewart 13-yard touchdown run (followed by a two-point conversion): a Chase Davedowski to Brody Corneau 39-yard touchdown pass (followed by a successful extra point kick courtesy of Sean O’Neil); a Luke Winkler 24-yard touchdown run (followed by an accurate extra point boot from O’Neil;); a Winkler 48-yard touchdown run (followed by a two-point conversion); and a 40-yard field goal by O’Neil.

For the day, Davedowski completed three of five pass plays for 75 yards as Almont’s quarterback. He threw zero interceptions along the way.

His successful tosses went to two different targets, Corneau (two catches for 53 yards) and Winkler (one reception for 22 yards) formed that group.

The Almont ground attack wound up with 272 yards on 29 totes.

Winkler (seven rushes for 164 yards) and Stewart (66 yards on seven totes) posted Almont’s top totals. The remaining 15 Raider rushes netted a combined 42-yard gain.

Cohen Ferqueron (three solos and seven assists) and Eric Haddon (three solos and six assists) registered Almont’s highest tackle totals. They were backed by Corneau (two solos and three assists), Jacob Fuller (one solo and four assists) and Aiden Howard (five assists).

The Almont defense also managed a pair of takeaways. Tim Miller and Corneau (an interception each) provided those.
