Announcing my write-in candidacy

Dear Editor,

As a resident of Goodland Township, I was saddened and shocked at the passing of Mavis Roy. The leadership Mavis provided to our township will be missed and will cause a tremendous void on our board.

I respectfully would like to introduce myself and announce my “write-in” candidacy for the position of Township Clerk for Goodland Township in the November 2024 election.

My name is Susan Jones. My husband Gregg and I have been residents of Goodland Township for six years, but have owned beautiful property in Goodland Township for almost 20 years. Gregg and I currently own and operate Feed ‘N’ Seed, a nursery in Port Huron, and I perform all bookkeeping responsibilities. In addition, I have over 20 years of auditing/finance experience that extends across North America. During my corporate tenure as Audit Director, I evaluated business processes based on best business practices and internal control compliance while managing an audit staff. I hold a Finance degree from the University of Southern California and an M.B.A. from Wayne State University.

For the past few years, I have attended most of the Goodland Township Board and Planning Commission meetings and remain current on the issues and events involving the township. I do not support the implementation of commercial-scale solar in our beautiful, rural community. Because Michigan Public Act 233 of 2023 will strip local control of zoning from our township and move solar decision-making to the state level, I am very aware of the legal battles that are currently ensuing to reverse Public Act 233. If I am elected, we will proceed slowly to ensure that all avenues are explored to maintain our rural community.

In order to serve our community, I am seeking the position of Township Clerk and respectfully ask for your consideration and support in the November 5th election. If you choose to vote for me as a “write-in” candidate there are certain rules you will need to follow to complete your ballot. In the section of Township Clerk, you will need to write my name, SUSAN JONES, in the blank space provided and fill in the circle to the right of the written name.
