Imlay City to face Flint Powers at Atwood Stadium Wednesday

 

TRI-CITY AREA — Host Imlay City (no. 3, Division 3) saw to it the boys’ soccer district title trophy would be theirs at night’s end, accomplishing the feat with a 5-2 triumph against Almont last Wednesday night.

With the outcome, Imlay City (22-3) advances to a Wednesday, October 23 regional semifinal at Flint’s Atwood Stadium There they will square off versus Flint Powers in a match scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Almont watches an outstanding 13-6-2 season reach an endpoint.

“I am very proud of our boys and their performance against a tough team,” Imlay City Coach Luis Hernandez commented. “They really wanted to advance to regionals where we are going to be playing against another tough team,” he noted.

“As a coach I am very excited and proud of what the group has has accomplished and to see them hunger for more is a great feeling.”

In defeat, Almont Coach Martin Camaj took solace knowing his ballclub had put forth a solid effort.

“I am very proud to be the coach of a group that plays with heart,” Camaj said. “It wasn’t the result we wanted at the end but we still have to be happy with what we achieved,” he noted.

Christopher Galiana (set up by Sebastian Salcedo), Sebastian Salcedo (assisted by Xavier Galeana), Xavier Galeana (set up by Salcedo), Salcedo (unassisted and Christopher Galiana (set up by ) provided Imlay City’s goals.

Max Galiana got the win in net for Imlay City. He finished with five saves.

Gabriel Nuculovic (unassisted) contributed both of Almont’s goals.

Owen Rayl handled the goalkeeping responsibilities for Almont. He wound up with 12 saves.
