Report shows a busy summer with no signs of slowing

Tri-City Area — Emergency service agencies throughout Lapeer County have reported consistently busy run volume for the summer months with no signs of slowing down any time soon, based on the latest reporting.

The Imlay City police department, in their monthly report to the city commission, shows 81 calls from the 911 system an increase of 20 calls over the same time period in September of 2023.

There were three assaults reported in September, giving them 35 for the year which represents a decline of 8% in year-to-date totals.

The department listed Officer Velasco as having the most arrest in September with eight and a total of 48 for the year. Five other officers have recorded a total of 37 arrests for 2024.

Officer Eckhout wrote 18 of the department’s 35 citations for September while Officer Velasco has written 129 citations for the year. The next highest number of citations written for the year is by Officer Sanchez with 59.

The 35 citations gives the department 335 year-to-date, about half of what officers wrote (671) in 2023.

There was little surprise in the top two locations for accidents in Imlay City, with the intersection of Capac Rd and N. Cedar topping the list with nine in September.

Next on the list was the intersection of S. Cedar and Newark with eight while E. Borland and S. Cedar saw five crashes. in all, there has been 91 accidents investigated by the department in 2024.

Lapeer County EMS responded to 675 of the total 923 calls for assistance in September with 664 of those being emergency type calls. The remaining calls were handled by Medstar who primarily does transfers throughout the county and Marlette EMS.

There were more than 90 calls combined in September to the communities of Almont Township, Village of Almont, Arcadia Twp. and Attica Twp. while Imlay City had 66 calls for service and Imlay Twp. had 19.

Dryden Twp. and the Village of Dryden had a total of 21 calls with 13 of those being in the township.

As expected, based on population, the City of Lapeer (344) and Mayfield Twp. (89) had the most runs for September with Imlay City third with 66.

The county is served by three EMS services, Lapeer County EMS, Marlette EMS and Medstar. Marlette responded to a total of 26 calls last month while Medstar handled 222. Of those calls, 129 were transfers within the City of Lapeer.
