Raiders fifth, Imlay ninth in regionals

TRI-CITY AREA — The Almont and Imlay City boys’ tennis squads wrapped up their seasons with a fifth and ninth, respectively, last Wednesday at a Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett-based Division 4 regional.

Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett won the title with 31 points. Notre Dame Prep placed second, thanks to an output of 21 points, and Armada tallied 11 for third.

Those teams advance to the Division 4 state finals set for this Friday and Saturday.

Sandusky (10), Almont (six), Marine City and Cros-Lex (five each), Yale (four) and Imlay City (three) held down spots four through nine at Wednesday’s regional.

The second doubles combination of William Kasper and Ethan Stacer led Almont that day, finishing with two team points.

Owen Viaene (first singles), Eric Brown (second singles), Cooper Schapman and William McSpadin (first doubles) plus Brayden McKinney and Luke Pape (third doubles) tacked on one team point each to Almont’s cause.

The first doubles team of Griffin Wetzel and Sam Edson headlined for Imlay City. They contributed two teams points for the Spartans.

Levi Lengemann (second singles) added the remaining Spartan team point.
