Dryden drops homecoming game

DRYDEN — Dryden was denied in their bid for a homecoming win, winding up on the losing end of a 60-8 verdict to visiting Big Thumb Conference Blue Division rival Brown City last Friday night.

With the outcome, Brown City improves to 5-1 and 4-1. Dryden falls to 3-3 and 2-3.

“Brown City is a well coached team that has a lot of talent,” Dryden Coach Hunter Gall commented. “We really struggled to stop the run,” he noted.

“We had some illness that really affected us on the defensive side of the ball. I think we will look much better next week with everyone healthy.”

Dryden generated their eight-point total aided by a Gianni Coscione to Santiago Perales 20-yard touchdown pass (followed by a Coscione to Perales PAT pass).

For the evening, Coscione completed 12 of 23 pass plays for 215 yards as Dryden’s quarterback. He threw two interceptions en route to those numbers.

His successful tosses were distributed to three different targets. Their ranks consisted of Perales (seven receptions for 138 yards), Brady Schneider (three catches for 67 yards) and Rowan Handley (two receptions for 10 yards).

Schneider was the other Dryden performer who opted to air out the football His lone attempt went for a completion to Coscione.

The Dryden ground attack managed 21 yards on 14 totes.

Coscione (nine carries for 12 yards) provided Dryden’s top rushing total. The remaining five Cardinal totes netted a combined five-yard gain.

David Insley (three solos and five assists) posted Dryden’s highest tackle output. He was backed by Perales (four solos and two assists), Owen Gall (two solos and four assists), Brandon Woolner (three solos and two assists) and Schneider (two solos and three assists).

Dryden will look to bounce back this Friday when Big Thumb Conference Blue Division counterpart Oakland Christian pays a visit. That matchup lists a 7 p.m. starting time.
