Imlay City drops contest to Yale

IMLAY CITY — Imlay City wound up on the losing end of a 38-13 outcome to visiting Yale in a Blue Water Area Conference varsity football contest last Friday night.

With the result, Yale improves to 1-3 and 1-2. Imlay City slips to 0-4 and 0-3.

In Friday’s homecoming contest, Imlay City spotted Yale a 14-0 advantage after one quarter was over with.

Imlay City then bounced back with a 13-7 second quarter edge, closing the gap to 21-13 at the half.

When the action resumed, Yale struck with a 7-0 third quarter advantage. That staked them to a 28-13 cushion with 36 minutes gone.

Yale then outscored Imlay City 10-0 the rest of the way, finishing off a 38-13 win.

Imlay City generated their 13-point total aided by an Andrew Cezik 32-yard interception return for a touchdown (followed by a successful extra point kick courtesy of Cezik) and a Tanner Land 50-yard touchdown run.

For the evening, Matt Evans completed eight of 16 pass plays for 91 yards as Imlay City’s quarterback. He threw zero interceptions en route to those numbers.

His successful tosses were distributed to five different targets. Their ranks consisted of Travis Tramontana (three catches for 18 yards), Cezik (two receptions for 40 yards), Edward Dervishi and Noah Graboyes (one catch for 13 yards each) along with Brian Patrick (one reception for seven yards).

The Imlay City ground attack managed 106 yards on 30 totes.

Land (nine rushes for 77 yards) and Tramontana (33 yards on six totes) supplied the top Imlay City outputs. The remaining 15 Spartan rushes netted a combined four-yard loss.

Travis Bush (11) plus Jaydin Hall and Tramontana (five apiece) posted the highest Imlay City tackle totals. They were backed by Graboyes and Evans (four stops each) along with Dervishi (three).

The Imlay City defense also registered a pair of takeaways. Bush and Cezik (an interception apiece) furnished those.

Imlay City returns to action this Friday when it travels to Algonac. The Blue Water Area Conference encounter begins at 7 p.m.
