Dryden knocks off rival, 28-22

DRYDEN — Dryden bounced back from a 68-20 loss to Deckerville a week prior at home, handing visiting Mayville a 28-22 setback in a Big Thumb Conference varsity football encounter last Thursday night.

With the decision, Dryden improves to 2-1 and 1-1. Mayville slips 2-1 and 1-1.

“I am proud of the way we played this week,” Dryden Coach Hunter Gall commented. “This win shows a lot of growth within the program,” he noted.

“We still have some work to do but I think this was a great step in the right direction.”

In Thursday’s encounter, Dryden took an 8-0 edge after one quarter was over with.

They then followed it up with a 12-8 second quarter advantage, increasing their cushion to 20-8 at the half.

The hosts then survived a 14-8 second half rally, leaving the field with a 28-22 win to their credit.

Dryden produced their 24 of their 28-point total aided by a Gianni Coscione 26-yard touchdown run a Gianni Coscione to Santiago Perales 38-yard touchdown pass; a Brady Schneider 70-yard kickoff return for touchdown and a Gianni Coscione six-yard touchdown run.

They also received a PAT tote from Gianni Coscione and an Owen Gall to Schneider PAT pass.

For the evening, Gianni Coscione completed four of six pass plays for 110 yards as Dryden’s quarterback. He threw two interceptions along the way.

His successful tosses went to three different targets. Their ranks consisted of Perales (two catches for 70 yards), Schneider (one catch for 23 yards) and Sonny Coscione (one reception for 17 yards).

The Dryden ground attack managed 245 yards on 33 totes.

Individually, Gianni Coscione (14 rushes for 94 yards), Schneider (84 yards on nine totes) a and Sonny Coscione (nine rushes for 84 yards) registered Dryden’s highest outputs. The remaining Cardinal carry netted a one-yard gain.

David Insley and Gall (four solos and five assists each) along with Sonny Coscione (three solos and five assists) posted the top Dryden tackle outputs. He was backed by Schneider (two solos and five assists), Perales (three solos and three assists), Gianni Coscione (one solo and four assists)

The Dryden defense also registered one takeaway. Gianni Coscione (an interception) furnished that.

Dryden returns to action this Friday when it travels to Memphis. The Big Thumb Conference game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
