MSU soccer edges Notre Dame, 2-1

Almont’s Ava Panduren is listed on the roster of MSU’s soccer team this fall.

ALMONT — The 13th-ranked Michigan State University women’s soccer team, which lists Almont freshman Ava Panduren on its roster, registered a 2-1 road triumph against 15th-rated Notre Dame last Thursday in South Bend, Indiana.

It was the season-opener for both combatants.

The outcome marked MSU’s first win over Notre Dame since September 22, 1989 and halted a 13-game losing streak to the school during that stretch.

In Thursday’s matchup, MSU and Notre Dame wrapped up the first half with a goal apiece.

Half two saw MSU net one goal and Notre Dame manage none, leaving the former with a 2-1 win to celebrate at game’s end.

MSU returns to action this Thursday. The non-league clash, the Spartans’ home opener, is scheduled for 7 p.m. It will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
