Fisher leads team to tourney success
ALMONT — Monsters 16U volleyball squad, which counts Almont’s Genesis Fisher among their ranks, earned the distinction of Pearl Division runners-up at the AAU Nationals Club Tournament recently.
The event was contested June 21-24 in Orlando, Florida.
The squad opened tournament play Friday, June 21 with a 2-1 showing. It was there they swept Chicago City 16-2 in a match lasting two sets; dropped a three-set battle with Kokoro Volleyball; and pulled out a three-set victory over CPVBC.
Monsters 16U volleyball squad would go on 1-2 on Saturday, June 22. That series of matches saw them register a straight set triumph against Academy 16E Banshees; fall in straight sets to WVBA Molten; and drop a straight set drop a straight set verdict to Oklahoma Peak Performance.

Sunday, June 23 saw the squad put together a 2-1 record. It was there they swept MOCO Juniors 16 Adidas; make SA Empire 16 Legacy absorb a straight set loss; and fall in straight sets to WD Nation 16 White.
Those outcomes netted them a spot in the Pearl Division bracket on Monday, June 24.
Monsters 16U volleyball squad started bracket play with a win over AVA 16 Robinson in an encounter lasting three sets.
They then knocked off Vaqueras 16-2 in straight sets, assuring themselves a spot in the Pearl Division title match.
It was there the squad fell 25-15, 24-26, 5-15 UNO Girls 16 Elite.
Fisher, a libero, finished the tournament with an impressive 93.8 percent service clip on 96 attempts.
She also contributed 85 digs, 21 set assists and one kill to her team’s cause.
